Home again, home again!
René Delafranier and Margaret Masters are re-opening Rene’s Bistro (2.0!) in mid-June in the exact location they operated in up to the end of 2019!
For 13 years they were the hotspot in downtown Stratford for René’s famous mussels and we’re delighted to share that the duo is beyond excited to be back!
Currently the pair are in the throes of upgrading the kitchen, installing dining furniture, and having Jesse of Burnt Bridges create the coolest bar for them. But progress is being made and we can’t wait for the doors to be open!
You can expect fan favourites to make a reappearance, such as the mushroom wellington, the lobster mac & cheese, the creme brulee and the PEI mussels done seven or eight different ways! (Did you know that René used to serve 150 pounds of mussels a WEEK!). Overall, the fare can be classified as casual fine dining comfort food. Think braised meats, creams and butter added here and there, dishes with a French influence. With a name like René Delafranier this should not come as a surprise!

Margaret will run the front-of-house while René will be in his happy place at the stove, overseeing the kitchen and the sous-chefs. The dining room will seat 50-55 guests, including four deuces up at the bar. Expect a tasty wine line up, chosen by Margaret, that will pair perfectly with the meals. The Bistro will be open Tuesday to Saturday for dinner from 4:30pm and the last seating at 8:30pm. Reservations are recommended.
And if you’re lucky – provided you’re there before his bedtime – you just might get to meet sweet little 3-year old Sylvan, the apple of his parents’ eyes!

Margaret and René would like to thank so many people who are helping to make their restaurant dream come true once again: Steve and Tony Alexandris and their mother, Leta; Jesse Coleman of Burnt Brydges; Perth Community Futures Development Corporation; KDB Law; Caroline Hansford at TD Canada Trust; Rob Steinbach at McCutchen & Pearce; Chris Bergeron; Kenny Murphy, Stratford Metal Products, and they are insisting… the BIA!
