Meet first time business owner, Mikko, and her mom, Sirka, the dynamo duo behind the newest sandwich shop in town – The Little Kitchen on York. Opening Saturday at 10am, Little Kitchen is sure to be a hit with the lakeside picnickers from the minute the doors open!
Eight sandwiches are on the menu – and soon too a daily special based on the whim of Sirka. Choose from white, whole wheat, rye bread (made by The Painted Baker down the street) gluten-free or a wrap. Choose the Basta Basta and that comes on Sirka’s homemade focaccia! Offerings include Indonesian and Vietnamese fillings, vegetarian, classic turkey or ham, even PB&J with bacon – truly something for everyone! You can also order sides of salad or soup or baked treat (some even gluten-free) such as a brownie, lemon square, carrot cake, energy ball and more!
Mikko recently graduated from Guelph University with a degree in neuroscience but for now is very happy to put her cooking skills to work alongside her mother, who is a well-established baker and chef amongst our downtown food outlets. Mikko has worked most recently at Bowl Bar and is grateful for all she has learned on-the-job from Chef Arron Carley. She began her work in the kitchen at just 15 years old, helping her mom out. Much like our friend Milo down the street who learned from his dad at the same age!
Little Kitchen is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm. Get ready to picnic!
