Welcome to Kristen Brekelmans, owner of the Sylvan Learning Centre located behind Bowl Bar in a very cosy space off the parking lot at the rear of the building.
Sylvan Learning Centre is a tutoring service offering personalized academic support to students from JK to Grade 12 and even through to 2`1 years of age. They provide tutoring in subjects like reading, math, and writing, study skills and homework support. The sessions, with one of the four teachers in Stratford, help the child to build confidence, become eager to learn and soon begin to see real results in the classroom.
Since 2023, Kristen has owned and operated the centre in London that currently offers tutoring to 177 students. Interestingly, this outlet was the very first of its kind anywhere in Canada when it opened in 1985! She has many students that make the trek in from across the region and so when choosing where to open a satellite centre, Stratford was perfect.

The centre has a dozen students so far and Kristen would like to grow that number to 60-90.
Kristen has a degree in child psychology from York University and for a decade was the Director of Childhood services at the YMCA in London. She is enormously passionate about helping children reach their full potential and she has a special soft spot for the students she has on the Oneida Reserve near to Byron on the edge of London.

Jordan’s Principle is a human rights principle established by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal (CHRT) to make sure that First Nations children do not face gaps, delays, or denials in accessing government services because of their identity as First Nations children. Jordan’s Principle is named in memory of Jordan River Anderson who was a young boy from Norway House Cree Nation in Manitoba.
Currently 13 students of the Sylvan Learning Centre in London who live on the Oneida Reserve and attend the Log School have their fees covered under this Principle.

There are four methods of payments at the Stratford Centre in order to help as many students as possible. Pre-payment options, pay as you go and monthly. With the recent May 20th official launch of the centre, Kristen is offering a special sale package that includes 4 free hours going into September. She is also hoping to offer a scholarship program as the business grows. Contact her for details!
Sylvan Learning Centre is open for services 4pm-8pm throughout the week and on Saturdays.
When not at her desk, Kristen is on her farm property with her husband (pictured with her above!), young daughter, two rescue dogs and her cat!
Please check out the hours HERE in our online directory.
