Are you an artist located in Stratford, Ontario, or with a strong connection to the city, who is interested in gaining public art experience and building your practice? The Downtown Stratford BIA is seeking artists for a public art activation animating concrete barricades.
STEPS Public Art and Downtown Stratford BIA are seeking two (2) local artists to animate twenty-seven (27) concrete barricades in the downtown Stratford area.
This project will centre Stratford’s voices while representing the city’s diverse population, exploring artists’ connections to the city and capturing the spirit and stories of Downtown Stratford.
About the Opportunity
Location: 129 St Patrick Street, Stratford (Beside Chocolate Barr’s Candies)
Production Timeline: Production will take place from the end of October to mid November 2023
Number of Artists Selected: Two (2)
Artist Qualifications: We are seeking artists who:
- Have a connection to the Stratford community
- Have a minimum of 1-2 years of mural production experience using exterior paint and aerosols
- Are available to paint on site during the production timeline
Artist Fee: $4,050 (per artist; inclusive of HST). This does not include material cost.
Theme: The selected artists will work alongside project partners and their clients to bring together ideas and imagery around flora, fauna, nature, community, joy and diversity in the design and production of this mural project

Please note that the project is pending approval and the installation is weather permitting; thus, this opportunity may get rescheduled to spring 2024. If you are selected to move ahead in the process, we will contact you for artist renderings (to be compensated).
