Eighty-seven sandwiches sold on opening day! Now that’s something to celebrate! Owners of Taylor’s Delicatessen, Stewart Taylor and Amber Karaz Tipping, are over the moon with the response to the opening of their business this week and are so grateful to the local community for showing up for them.
The Deli follows a take out model but does offer a dozen seats for those who’d like to sit in and enjoy their meal. Most sandwiches are served on focaccia or ciabatta that is made in house.
The list of European-influenced cold sandwiches include a veggie option (aptly named Planet Sammy, an ode to the Planet Diner) or meats from the Wild Hog, Hayters but also made by Stew himself – curing, roasting, dry rubbing – this self-taught chef does it all!
Hot sandwiches include “mom’s” grilled cheese and “dad’s” grilled cheese, a Calabrian Chicken Sammy, Chorizo & Egg, and a Beef Dip that sold out in a flash on Monday. Mouth watering homemade dumplings are by sweet Vera, who in 2022 arrived in Stratford with her husband to escape the war. Finally you can “taylor” your sandwich, having it built to your specifications, or if a sandwich is not what you are craving, try the honey-roasted beet salad!
Stew spent seven years working as head chef at Bijou, until the fire tragedy in October that forced the closure of the restaurant. He was also responsible for successfully setting up The Hub Butchery. For 17 years, Amber has managed dental clinics, seven of those years were at a clinic in Bermuda! She is an avid humanitarian, helping to create the “Loads of Love” organization in Bermuda to help those experiencing homelessness, building houses in India and setting up a dental clinic in Haiti. She also shares a thriving business with her mother, Liberty Laser Therapy on Huron St.
To say this couple is busy, is an understatement. On Saturday – the “opening” for family and friends – Stew asked Amber if she had her entire uniform on… she replied “Yes, I think so” to which he said “There’s one thing missing…” and Stew… “PUT A RING ON IT!” Congratulations, Stew and Amber! Now you can add wedding plans to your list of to do’s!
Open 11am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. Open 11am to 3pm on Saturday. Closed Sunday.
